East West Post

East West Post

Design action East West Post is a communicative experience of designers from different parts of the planet (Russia, USA, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Lebanon, Iran, France, China, Israel, Korea, Japan, Indonesia), speaking different languages. The poster language has been chosen for this dialogue. What means East and West for everyone of us? Where starts one and finishes another? With what part of the world do our neighbours relate themselves?
Participants could interpret the  theme in their own way, applying recognizable symbols and deep personal feelings to their works. Igor Gurovich and Erick Belousov show us a sharp border between the east and the west, at the same time these concepts are totally diffused in Jianping He`s and  Shun Sasaki`s works. East and West have universal extent for Ariane Spanier and Jinwoo Lee and  it`s just a game with cut paper for Oded Ezer. Ivan Weiss and Michael Krehnbuhl (Johnson / Kingston studio) paid our attention to the political aspect —  the East and  the West is the same like the North and the South: when there is no understanding bombs start falling. Curious tribal patterns and connection between different nations take part in Erich Brehbuhl`s, Irwan Harnoko`s, CYAN studio`s and High on Type collective`s posters.
Are East and West just abstract terms or it's literally US? Probably exactly for this reason a lot of our participants had noticed the word WE in the topic name.

Participants of the project: CYAN (Germany), Igor Gurovich Гурович (Russia), Ariane Spanier (Germany), Jianping He (China—Germany), Eric Belousov (Russia), Chae Byung-rok (Korea), Erich Brechbühl (Switzerland), Jinwoo Lee (Korea), JOHNSON/KINGSTON (Switzerland), Joong Hyun Cho (Korea), Erik Brandt (USA), CHANGE IS GOOD (France), ESH GRUPPA (Russia), Krzysztof Iwanski (Poland), HIGH ON TYPE (The Netherlands), Irwan Harnoko (Indonesia), Khajag Apelian (Lebanon), Martin Woodtli (Switzerland), Majid Abbasi (Iran), Melchior Imboden (Switzerland), Oded Ezer (Israel), THONIK (The Netherlands), Shun Sasaki (Japan), Alexander Vasin (Russia).

Realization of the project wouldn't be able without the support of Moscow printing house UP PRINT and Antalis company, world widely known paper distributor. Each participant could freely choose one of three kinds of paper (white, black or silver) and two inks (white, black or silver). 50 copies of each poster were printed on a silkscreen press. The exhibition premiere happened on Typomania 2018 international festival. Also the exhibition will travel by the cities of Russia and abroad (Arkhangelsk, Ulan-Ude, Ulaanbaatar, Nizhniy Novgorod).
How far will appear these 24 posters to the east and to the west? However, a slogan on poster of Igor Gurovich tells us: "The farthest East itself is already the West".
The project curator: Alexander Vasin. Print process manager: Tatyana Altapova

The East Coast West Post poster catalog is a 70cm x 100cm perforated sheet, which can be hung on a wall as a poster or stitched into a catalog. Published with the support of UP PRINT printing house and Antalis company.
Designer: Diana Zinchenko.
Posters and the catalog are available for purchase at Typomania Shop.
