Oleksiy Chekal

Oleksiy Chekal is a Ukrainian graphic designer, calligrapher, and art critic who specializes in complex intercultural and interlanguage design tasks in the field of museum, scientific and religious projects (Christianity, Judaism, Islam). Oleksiy works as a calligrapher and typographer with different scripts in Europe and the Middle East. He also has over twenty years of experience in creating fonts, brands, book designs, and monumental graffiti. In addition to digital technology, Oleksiy is experimenting in the field of avant-garde typography and letterpress at the intersection of printing and calligraphy. His research interests are related to the art of the history of fonts and manuscript traditions, as well as to the history of early Christian and medieval art of Byzantium, Syria, and Europe.
He worked as a teacher at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Art (Ukraine), as well as at the British School of Design (Moscow). He is currently a visiting professor at the Florentine Academy of Classical Arts: www.artac.org (Italy).
